Alaa Tawalbeh was born in Amman in 1980. He works with acrylics and inks, exploring the expressions of the human face, especially those related to stupidity. He generally refuses to exhibit his work in galleries. Tawalbeh is also a computer programmer and has recently contributed the visual component of a literary audiovisual performance called A Last Breath Before it All Ends, in collaboration with writer Hisham Bustani and sound artist Muhammad Shahrur.

The script takes the form of a willow-like text, distinctive from traditional Chinese text in its thin shape and elegance. Whenever Grandma He’s grandmother taught her to write the script, she would cry, as if the physical act of writing the script is an act of confession.
