The Common Announces 2025 Amazon Literary Partnership

We at The Common are pleased to announce the receipt of our seventh award from the Amazon Literary Partnership’s Literary Magazine Fund.

“We are grateful for the Amazon Literary Partnership’s continued support and are honored to receive this award,” said Jennifer Acker, The Common editor-in-chief. “The funding from this grant allows us to ensure our authors are paid a competitive rate as we work with them through each step of the publication process.”

The Common plans to use this $5,000 grant to continue amplifying the voices of communities underrepresented in the literary world. Previous grants from the Amazon Literary Partnership have been used to fund portfolios spotlighting writing from Amman, Jordan (Issue 29); Arabic stories from Chad, South Sudan, and Eritrea (Issue 27); and writing and art from the farmworker community (Issue 26). This new funding will further The Common’s goal of celebrating a diverse group of global writers by offering them direct payments and helping them find global readership through our print and online publishing platforms. Forthcoming Issue 30, which marks The Common’s 15th publishing year, features debut fiction, essays about the female body and an abandoned Argentine village, and poetry from emerging and established writers.

“CLMP is incredibly honored to champion the vital work of literary magazines through the Literary Magazine Fund,” said Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) Executive Director Mary Gannon. “We are so grateful to Amazon Literary Partnership for its continued support of this singular opportunity.”

For over 15 years, the Amazon Literary Partnership has provided grants to more than 170 literary organizations, elevating the voices of thousands of writers. The National Book Foundation, Cave Canem, PEN America, and Poets & Writers are all among the writing programs and nonprofit literary organizations to have received these grants.

Since 2017, the Amazon Literary Partnership has supported The Common’s mission of cultivating an individual and collective sense of place by publishing emerging and diverse authors from around the world. In 2019, the Amazon Literary Partnership worked with the CLMP to establish a new Literary Magazine Fund, and The Common was one of only 15 magazines awarded a grant from the Fund in its inaugural year.

I’m holding a blank page all the time for myself. That’s a truth that I choose to believe in: the blank page is a tool for our collective liberation. It can be how we keep going. I love that we can find each other on the page and heal each other, too. So, I invoke that again and again, for myself, because I need it.
